Celine Dion sizzles at Jamaica Jazz Fest

"Hello, Jamaica!" shouted Celine Dion to the huge crowd that turned out for her performance at Jamaica Jazz and Blues, at the Greenfied Stadium in Trelawny on Friday night.

After her opening number I Drove All Night at minutes after midnight, the Canadian singer expressed appreciation for the love and support she got from her Jamaican fans.

American Grammy-winning singer Regina Belle was the surprise guest artiste at the National Commercial Bank's (NCB's) Pinnacle Awards Ceremony held at the Wyndham Kingston Hotel, St Andrew, on Saturday night.

The function was held to laud the bank's top performing employees for the Financial Year 2010/2011 and was under the theme 'Celebrating Excellence'.

Singer Etta James Dies

The legendary singer, whose hits included Something's Got a Hold on Me and rhythm and blues standard At Last, has passed away aged 73 after a battle with leukaemia.

She had been diagnosed with the condition in 2010, according to her long-time friend and manager, Lupe De Leon, and died in hospital in Riverside, California.

Last month, Etta - who had battled dementia and kidney disease during the past few years - was admitted to hospital after experiencing breathing difficulties but was discharged on January 6.

Lupe said at the time: "She is at home with her husband and her family by her side. Her condition remains stable. We think it's best for her to be at home."

For the first year Kingdom Entertainments will produce the Bermuda Music Festival in partnership with Oxford Communications.

This year's headline acts are Ziggy Marley, Angie Stone, Estelle and Toni Braxton while the local artists are Chewstick, Home Grown, Sia Spence and McCartney K. This year, government has scaled back the festival's budget to $800,000 compared to last year's $1.9 million event but Kingdom Entertainment president and the festival's co-producer Chip Quigley promises it will still be a first class event.
